Day 14 - On Integration

Praise feels good. Praise makes us feel gratified, encouraged, and safe. But what feels better is discovering, so many moons down the road, that you touched a life without ever knowing it. And if this single individual was so impacted by you, all this time, and you were oblivious, who else might be out there, carrying your presence in their heart?

There is beauty in praise, but I think that beauty comes more from the delivery than from its reception. It is impeccably wonderful to know later, maybe much later, that you touched a life. But maybe the most powerful lessons in life are the ones we take with us, hold onto and contemplate for such a long time, we never have the opportunity to thank our teacher. Or, perhaps, when we finally find the understanding that has so long eluded us, we have forgotten where our own beliefs originated. And maybe this is the most profound gift we can give each other. Knowledge, so deep-rooted in our own being, we forget its origin. Words, actions, deeds, so stirring and thought-provoking, they change our life, without the giver's knowledge. This is a true integration, the imbibing of another soul who we then take on as part of our self.

Now that is an achievement.
