When I moved back to Colorado Springs last July, I didn't know what I was looking for. I didn't know what I wanted. I didn't know where I was going. It's funny, how life has a way of gently leading you to what's meant for you, if you let it... if you're willing to pay attention.
What I found here was much more than my roots. I reestablished this city as my home. I reconnected with old friends, and I made new ones; but, most importantly, I remembered who I was... who I am.
One of the biggest parts of my life in the Springs is Hear Here - the local Spoken Word poetry community. These people opened their arms to me. They accepted me into their space, broken pieces and all, and they helped me heal. Hear Here has given me much more than a safe space to speak my truth - Hear Here has given me a family in the most honest and organic sense.
For this reason, I am so grateful, humbled, and excited to announce that I will now be doing my part to give back to this community that has given me so much. I will be teaching a FREE yoga class on the 1st Saturday of every month at Manitu Bindu in Manitou Springs, directly preceeding the monthly Hear Here Pot Luck and Open Mic.
I have been collaborating with Luke Cissell to organize this monthly addition to our poetry space, and our intention for this class is very much rooted in what I found at Hear Here - what so many of us find in this incredible community. Luke and I want to promote Hear Here as a space of both sharing and healing. Our goal is to provide a safe space where anyone who wishes to practice yoga is welcome.
I am beyond thrilled to have to opportunity to share mat space with the beautiful souls who have found their sanctuary in Hear Here, just as I have, and I look forward to all that is yet to come.
